Dear Devs,

Sorry, if I submit bugs that are already solved but I found no way to search the archives easily.
So here is my report,

-------------------

During the compilation of octave-3.0.1 on gutsy I met the following compilation errors:

EXINPUTS="..:.:./..::" texi2pdf ./octave.texi
This is pdfTeXk, Version 3.141592-1.40.3 (Web2C 7.5.6)
 file:line:error style messages enabled.
 %&-line parsing enabled.

?
------------
I don't know if the possiblity of running octave locally with script ./run-octave existed before but it is great!
Thanks.

However, after strating it I experienced the following:
------------
warning: LOADPATH is no longer a built-in variable; please read the NEWS file or type `news' for details
error: `LOADPATH' undefined near line 1 column 11
error: evaluating assignment expression near line 1, column 9
error: near line 1 of file `/home/lev/.octaverc'
octave:1> news
error: news: unable to locate NEWS file
error: evaluating if command near line 29, column 3
error: called from `news' in file `/home/lev/octave-3.0.1/scripts/miscellaneous/news.m'

So there is no "news".
-----
On the other hand I was told that "help -i" is not supported anymore
But it still works. I suggest it be removed for avoiding further confusion.

Thank you all,

Levente Torok
