Octave fails to start on YDL G5 Mac

I built Octave from source on a G5 Mac with YDL 5.0.2
No reported errors (some libs missing, but build completed)
Try to start octave from terminal window

[steve at localhost ~]$ octave
octave: error while loading shared libraries:
/usr/local/lib/octave-3.0.0/libcruft.so: R_PPC_REL24 relocation at
