Colors in errorbar

The colors used in the latest version of Octave (3.0.0) made from errorbar (semilogxerr, semilogyerr, etc.) seem to be unobservable and uncontrollable. 

I've done some poking around in the contents of the properties associated with the errorbar objects using the new-to-octave satanic handle-graphics. Everything seems to be in order in terms of the data, etc and the errorbar plots seem to be in the right place on the screen. However, there seems to be no connection between the colors displayed and those in the properties. I'm now using an apple which means gnuplot through Aquaterm. 

I've been away from this for a while. However, it seems like the older versions of Octave seemed to work just fine on the Apple. Any hints?
