Just to make things clear - I only said that AFAIR x86-64 does _not_ use
80 bits numbers, I said nothing about 128 bits.

My  point was that that due to absence of 80 <-> 64 bits conversions here
and there the results might be more stable.

Again, the statements are based on my recollections, i.e. I do not remember
exactly - kind of as after 80 <-> 64 bits conversions :-).
