override check for strptime?

The configure script finds that strptime is functioning on my system.

checking for strptime... yes
[...]
checking whether strptime is broken... no
---------------------------

... but the octave function by the same name produces a crash.

I'd like to try explicitly telling the build process to consider  
strptime broken.

How might that be done?
