Peter,

I have some errands to run. I'll be back later.

In the meantime, what do you get when you type

	gnuplot --version

from the OS X terminal.app? I get

	gnuplot 4.2 patchlevel 2

Also where did you obtain octave from? Sourceforge, Mac/DarwinPorts,  
or somewhere else?
