Installing Octave on Asus Eee PC 4G under Linux (Debian) - Help urgently needed

Dear all,

As a research engineer, I have found the Octave software extremely useful. In addition, I have recently bought new Eee PC 4G.
Now I am trying to complete the minimum configuration that I will be able to use for a filed work.

Since I am not a Linux expert, I will greatly appreciate if someone can post a step-by-step procedure for Octave (which package?) installation on the Asus Eee PC 4G.
