problem in installing Java and Jhandlers

Hi, 
I try to install java-1.2.4 for octave.
But getting the following Error message

>make all
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/java-1.2.4/src'
Java support not compiled

For the jhandles-0.3.3
>make all
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/jhandles-0.3.3/src'
Java support not compiled
make[1]: *** [all] Error 255
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/jhandles-0.3.3/src'
make: *** [build] Error 2

Please help me out....
