Plots not showing

I've just installed Octave 3.0.2 and gnuplot 4.2.3 on MacOSX 10.4.11  
PowerPC.  The install itself worked fine (as far as I know) and  
Octave works great.

However, I can't get plots to show.  When asking for a plot, semilog  
etc, the computer pauses to do the work, but then nothing shows -  
Octave just goes to the next prompt.  There are no error messages  
(e.g. like the ones you get if gnuplot isn't installed).

Any ideas would be most appreciated.  I'm not a Terminal expert, so  
you'll have to type slowly, I'm afraid.
