Neither am I, I'm afraid. It will be best if Marco explains... as I
understand it, the present code in development repo works, but does
slightly more work than required (Marco stated it's "suboptimal", and
I guess he meant performance, but I'm not sure). I admit that I didn't
look at it closely to really understand what's going on.
Until yesterday, code in release 3.0.x was buggy because the relevant
patch (an old one, from CVS days) was never applied to 3.0.x branch.
