Out of curiosity, what's the revision of this tarball in the 3.0.x 
repository?

An up-to-date pull+update shows me
 > hg tip

There seems to be no tag for 3.0.4-rc3

I'm asking because for me it is easier and faster to update my 
repository, rebuild and call make check, than doing a completely fresh 
build from a tarball.
